White WineMatías Riccitelli Old Vine Torrontés 2019
The Matías Riccitelli Old Vines from Patagonia Torrontés is made from grapes grown in Allen, a traditional vine growing site located in the Alto Valley of the Rio Negro province in Patagonia. The vineyard is situated between the Andes Mountains and the Atlantic Ocean, creating a unique terroir that contributes to the wine's distinct character. The vines, which were planted in the late 1960s, are ungrafted and low-yielding, and are grown using organic principles to produce grapes that showcase their varietal characteristics and the terroir.
The grapes are hand-harvested at optimal maturity and carefully selected before vinification. Half of the grapes are gently pressed before fermentation, while the other half are fermented on the skins to develop complex flavors. The fermentation process takes place with wild yeasts in clay amphorae, allowing for natural and traditional winemaking methods. The wine is then aged for eight months before being bottled without fining or filtration.
The resulting wine is golden in color and displays complex and fine aromas of citrus fruit, white floral notes, and subtle vanilla highlights. On the palate, the wine is perfectly balanced with a lovely volume and an elegant finish. This Torrontés is an excellent example of the unique character that can be achieved through careful grape selection and traditional winemaking methods.
