Szent Donát Tufa Red Blend 2023

This wine comes from Tihány (Tee-Hahn), a small wine region on the northern shore of Lake Balaton, where vineyards surround the twin lakes occupying the crater of an extinct volcano. At Szent Donát, Kékfrankos, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot are cultivated across these volcanic slopes, producing wines that differ markedly from those of neighbouring Csopak. The name "Tufa" refers to the volcanic tuff that forms much of the local geology, a porous volcanic rock that has shaped both the landscape and the character of the region's wines. Szent Donát is the most significant estate working in Tihány and one of the few producers committed to organic farming in the area. The wine shows dark cherry, plum, wild herbs, and spice, supported by fine tannins and a distinctive volcanic mineral character. Bright acidity and a savoury finish give shape and persistence.
