Radikon

Amber Wine

Radikon Jakot 500ml 2020

This is a deeply amber coloured wine from the iconic Radikon estate in Oslavia, north-eastern Italy. After hand-harvesting, the grapes see an extended period of 3-4 months skin contact. The wine ages in large, neutral oak barrels and in bottle before release.

This wine used to be named Tokaj, because it's made from a grape formerly called Tocai Friulano. After the EU banned the use of the word Tokaj outside the world heritage listed Hungarian wine region of the same name, the grape on further investigation was discovered to be Sauvignon Vert, a less aromatic mutation of Sauvignon Blanc, and the wine was renamed Jakot, which is Tokaj backwards.

Wild and compelling, expect notes of marmalade, summer flowers, and cheese rind, unfurling wave by wave into something earthy and savoury, with dense tea-like tannins shaped by years of ageing. Jakot is the most intense of Radikon's bottlings. Lovers of orange and natural wine will find it rewarding, as will anyone interested in experiencing the style and energy of the iconic estate.
