Red WinePeter Wetzer Blumenthal 2021
Blumenthal is one of Wetzer’s gentler, more red-fruited sites, sitting on the eastern side of Sopron where lighter, looser soils; a mix of clay, sand, and scattered schist fragments, yield a more fragrant and aromatic style of Kékfrankos. The 2021 is fermented spontaneously with whole berries in open vats, then matured in old Hungarian barrels to keep the profile supple and transparent. The wine carries vivid cherry, rose hip, wild herbs and sous bois, with finer, silkier tannins than the firm tannins of Wetzer's other site, the Spern Steiner. There’s still a mineral line running through the palate, but here it reads as gentle earth and crushed stone.
