Karas Syrah Volcanic 2023

Karas was established by the Eurnekian family in Armenia's Armavir province, bringing their experience in Argentine viticulture to the volcanic landscapes of the Ararat Valley. The estate's vineyards lie at approximately 1,000 metres elevation, on soils containing basalt, volcanic tuff, limestone and alluvial deposits. Under the direction of Argentine winemaker Gabriel Rogel, with consultancy from Michel Rolland, Karas has developed a portfolio combining indigenous Armenian varieties with international grapes. The Volcanic Syrah is produced entirely from Syrah, harvested by hand and fermented in small batches following careful fruit selection. The wine offers a concentrated expression of dark berries and plum, accompanied by black pepper, savoury spice and earthy undertones. Generous fruit and firm but integrated tannins give the palate structure, while acidity provides balance and definition.
