Red WineKaras Kef Dry Red 2024
Produced by Karas Wines in Armenia's Ararat Valley, KEF is a blend of 60% Areni and 40% Malbec, bringing together one of Armenia's most important indigenous red varieties with a grape of French origin. The winery was established by the Eurnekian family in Armavir, where vineyards occupy a continental landscape of volcanic basalt, tuff, limestone and alluvial deposits. The name KEF refers to feasting and celebration in Armenian, reflecting the country's longstanding traditions of hospitality and communal dining. The grapes are harvested by hand and fermented under controlled temperatures, with malolactic fermentation in stainless steel. Areni contributes freshness and red-fruit character, while Malbec provides darker fruit, colour and supple structure. The 2024 offers aromas of ripe plum, blackberry and dark berries, with subtle notes of spice and cocoa. Generous fruit, smooth tannins and balanced acidity give the wine an approachable, medium-bodied palate, well suited to everyday drinking and the Armenian table.
