Domaine de Kalathas
Rosé WineDomaine de Kalathas 10+12 2020
Domaine de Kalathas was established by Jerome Charles Binda on the Cycladic island of Tinos, Greece, in 2011. The island sits in the middle of the Aegean Sea and is home to the rare sandy granitic soil of the Kalathas Valley, on which Jerome and his eldest son Gabriel create incredibly distinctive wines from their 10 hectare plot of rocky terraces.
From the ancient vineyards of the tiny Cycladic island of Tinos, the native grape Aspro Potamisi was crushed underfoot, pressed and then left to mature in vats for two years. Aromas of dried apricots, dried mint, lavender, and sea spray. Brininess borders on green olive with hints of minerals, especially flint.

Question: How does the island of Tinos influence the taste of these wines?
Answer: The island of Tinos imparts a maritime character to Domaine de Kalathas' wines, with briny notes reminiscent of sea spray and green olives. The volcanic soils add flinty minerality, while the island’s herbs inspire aromas of dried mint, lavender, and dried apricots.
