Freeman Rosso Corvina Rondinella 2024

Established in 1999 by former Charles Sturt University Professor of Wine Science Brian Freeman, Freeman Vineyards is located in the Hilltops region of New South Wales, where elevated vineyards and decomposed granite soils provide favourable conditions for several northern Italian grape varieties. Freeman pioneered the Australian cultivation of Corvina and Rondinella, beginning with just six cuttings of each variety, sourced from the Veneto. These grapes are traditionally associated with Valpolicella and Bardolino, and form the basis of Freeman's flagship Secco, which incorporates partially dried grapes. The 2024 Rosso Corvina Rondinella is a lighter, more immediate expression, made exclusively from freshly harvested fruit. The varieties are fermented separately in stainless steel, briefly matured in seasoned oak barrels and blended before bottling. Aromas of ripe red berries, briar and savoury herbs introduce a light-bodied palate with generous fruit, soft tannins and a mellow, gently savoury finish.
