Bendito Destino Amphora 2022

From Spain’s Ribera del Duero D.O. on the high Castilian plateau, an appellation defined by 720 - 1,000 m elevations and limestone-laced clays, this amphora fermented cuvée comes from the historic Fuentecebolla parcel. Bendito Destino is the project of sommelier-turned-vigneron Terry Kandylis, who has focused on reviving centenarian bush vines around Canalejas de Peñafiel. In 2022, whole bunches were laid into amphora and topped with hand-destemmed fruit; after 41 days the wine was basket-pressed and finished in seasoned Hermitage barrels. The result is vivid and textural, red cherry, pomegranate and rosehip with lifted spice, fine chalk tined tannins and a cool, limestone line that carries through a long, sapid finish.
