António Madeira
White WineAntónio Madeira Dão Branco 2021
António Madeira is the French son of Portuguese immigrants, who has returned to his roots in the foothills of the Serra da Estrela in Portugal's Dão region to make wine. Inspired by French natural winemaking greats, he is passionate about organic and manual work in the vineyard.
His Dão Branco is a field blend of over 20 autochthonous grape varieties, including Siria, Fernão Pires, Bical, Arinto, Encruzado, Malvasia Fina and Cerceal. Fruit is purchased from growers across the Serra da Estrela who use organic practices, and hand-harvested by Madeira and his team, allowing for hand-sorting in the vineyard. The wine is fermented in slowly-toasted 500L barrels and stainless steel vats, and completes malolactic conversion.
From the winemaker: 'Fruit, florals, lactic and mineral, fresh and crystalline, delicious, complex scents, and a sophisticated, full-bodied saline mouth. lengthy, powerful, and mineral-based (granite) finish.'
