A. Gere Fekete Járdovány 2017
Fekete Járdovány is an ancient and nearly extinct Hungarian red grape variety, rediscovered and revived by winemaker Attila Gere (A. Gere) in Villány. The grape was once prevalent in the Carpathian Basin before the phylloxera epidemic led to its near extinction.
In 2004, the Research Institute for Viticulture and Oenology of the University of Pécs collaborated with Attila Gere's winery to reintroduce seven ancient Hungarian grape varieties, including Fekete Járdovány. The first successful vintage was produced in 2009, marking the grape's comeback after over a century of dormancy.
The wine is reminiscent of Nebbiolo-based wines, featuring a pale cherry-red color with pink reflections. Aged in small oak barrels, it has pleasant acidity and firm tannins, leading to a long, flavourful finish.
