Red WineJohanneshof Reinisch Zweigelt 2020
Hailing from Austria's Thermenregion, south of Vienna, comes this delightful and organic red, exuding a soft and rounded fruitiness.
This velvety Austrian red employs the Zweigelt grape. Although not universally recognized, it's actually Austria's predominant red grape. It's the brainchild of Dr. Zweigelt, who in the 1920s, ingeniously crossbred Blaufränkish with St. Laurent. Harvests usually occur in September, and after the fermentation process, the wine is matured in expansive oak barrels for nearly 10 months before being bottled. The outcome is a splendidly mild, well-rounded red, offering a burst of ripe cherry and plum undertones, accompanied by mellow tannins, a robust acidic structure, and a sustained finish.
Its affable nature and lush taste profile pair wonderfully with dishes like venison, veal, or other gamey meals, and it's equally complementary to robust, nut-infused cheeses.
