Red WineHeimann & Fiai Bati Kereszt Szekszárd Kékfrankos 2020
From the red clay and loess soils of Szekszárd’s Bati Kereszt vineyard, this single-site Kékfrankos is an eloquent expression of Hungary’s southern elegance. Heimann & Fiai farm organically and vinify with a light touch, allowing the warmth of the region to meet the variety’s natural structure and lift. In 2020, this meant a wine of ripeness and restraint—sun-warmed fruit, but never overripe; tension without austerity.
The nose is vivid and fine: sour cherry, wild raspberry, rosehip, and dried herbs, underpinned by a dusting of sweet paprika and iron. The palate is lithe and layered, with powdery tannins and a red-mineral acidity that draws the wine to a long, tapering finish. It’s a compelling argument for Szekszárd’s place among Central Europe’s great red terroirs—one that favours finesse over force.
