Red WineMee Godard Morgon Côte du Py 2023
From the Côte du Py climat of Morgon, this 2023 release from Mee Godard comes from one of the cru’s most respected contemporary growers in the region, whose meticulous parcel work has helped to redefine Beaujolais at a very serious level. Born in South Korea and established in Morgon since the early 2010s, Mee Godard farms old-vine sites with low yields and a strongly site-specific philosophy. Côte du Py, Morgon’s most celebrated hill, is marked by decomposed schist and volcanic rock, producing wines with greater depth, structure, and ageing capacity than the cru’s lighter sandy-granitic subregions. Vinification is typically semi-carbonic with careful extraction and restrained oak or neutral élevage to preserve site character and transparency. The 2023 vintage offers black cherry, raspberry, violet, and spice, with firm tannins, bright acidity, and a deep ironstone-like savoury line through the finish. This is a more muscular and classical articulation of Morgon, built for both immediate pleasure and cellaring.
