Mee Godard
Red WineMee Godard Morgon Côte du Py 2024
Mee Godard established her domaine in Morgon in 2013, developing a reputation for carefully structured, age-worthy Gamay from some of the appellation's most distinguished vineyards. Côte du Py is Morgon's most celebrated hill, rising above the village on soils of decomposed schist and volcanic rock, locally associated with the distinctive blue stones known as roches pourries. Godard's holdings occupy the slopes of this historic site, where old vines and relatively poor soils contribute to wines of considerable concentration and tannic structure. The estate has been certified organic since 2023, with vineyard management focused on maintaining healthy soils and restricting yields. The difficult 2024 growing season brought persistent rainfall and reduced production across Beaujolais, although the cooler conditions favoured freshness and aromatic definition. The wine combines dark cherry and wild raspberry with violet, liquorice and savoury mineral impressions. Its palate is firmly structured, with concentrated red fruit, fine-grained tannins and pronounced acidity providing the framework for further development in bottle. A serious, finely detailed expression of Côte du Py with the capacity to age gracefully.
