Frappato is a light-bodied, aromatic red grape variety native to Sicily, most famously grown around Vittoria in the island's southeast. Often blended with Nero d’Avola in the DOCG wine Cerasuolo di Vittoria, Frappato lends bright red fruit, floral perfume, and vibrant acidity to the fuller-bodied, darker Nero d’Avola. On its own, Frappato is increasingly celebrated for its finesse and transparency, offering wines with notes of sour cherry, rose petal, wild strawberry, and hints of Mediterranean herbs. Its low tannin and fresh profile make it a versatile wine for chillable reds, and a compelling expression of Sicily’s coastal terroir.
