Fetească Regală is a native Romanian white grape variety, first identified in the early 20th century in Transylvania, and now among the country’s most widely planted. A natural cross between Fetească Albă and Grasă de Cotnari, it yields fresh, medium-bodied wines with floral aromatics, crisp acidity, and flavours of pear, green apple, and wild herbs. Known in Slovakia as Pesecká Leánka, the variety is also cultivated in neighbouring Moldova and Hungary, where it often produces delicately textured wines with a mineral edge. While most commonly made in a dry style, Fetească Regală also lends itself to off-dry and sparkling expressions, offering a versatile and expressive reflection of Central and Eastern European terroir.
