Moric 'Reserve' Blaufränkisch 2021

Roland Velich comes from a Burgenland winemaking family but initially he worked as a croupier. It was 2001 when he kicked off the Moric project, working with seriously old vines that perhaps no one believed in quite as much as him. His zeal for this terroir and the Blaufränkisch grape has mercifully been matched by vision and skill.

80% of the grapes for the Blaufränkisch Moric Reserve comes from the steep slate and limestone slopes in Neckenmarkt and 20% from the sandy and clayey soils on the Lutzmann plateau, which is situated on a limestone subsoil. Grown on 25 to 55 year old vines, fermentation with spontaneous yeasts, open mash fermentation for 3 weeks, 20 months aging in 500 to 1000 litre barrels, no fining, no filtration.
