Bordeaux

Bordeaux, in southwestern France, is one of the world’s most renowned and influential wine regions, known for its structured, age-worthy red blends and elegant whites. The region is divided by the Gironde estuary into the Left Bank and Right Bank, each favouring different grape varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon dominates on the gravelly soils of the Left Bank, while Merlot leads on the clay-rich Right Bank. Bordeaux reds often combine these with Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Malbec, offering a balance of power, freshness, and complexity. The region also produces excellent dry whites from Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon, as well as the famed botrytised sweet wines of Sauternes. With its intricate classification systems and centuries of winemaking heritage, Bordeaux remains a benchmark for both tradition and innovation in fine wine.
